About
Andrew Y. Pang was born in China and raised in Los Angeles, growing up bilingual in Cantonese and English. As a first-generation Chinese-American, he often found himself bridging two worlds, translating more than just languages. That early role as both translator and interpreter shaped his interest in breaking down information and finding ways to make complex ideas understandable. Working with data and GIS has become his way of turning complexity into something people can grasp.
He received his BA in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science from UC Santa Cruz and is currently pursuing an MS in Information Systems at CSU Los Angeles. His experience spans Tesla’s Autopilot team to research & reporting in public schools.
Outside of work, Andrew’s passion for photography and his time spent traveling deepened his curiosity about urbanism, transportation, and the small rules of daily life. Observing everything from Tokyo’s “stand on the left, walk on the right” escalator etiquette (reversed in Osaka), to Chicago’s disdain for ketchup on hot dogs, he found that photography became a natural way to explore these cultural differences. It connects his love for place, culture, and storytelling.
